Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is organizing my closet going to be expensive?

    Organizing your closet saves you time and how much your time is worth to you will answer your question. Well we make it affordable for everyone. When we plan a closet organizer we work with the customer to ensure they get more of what they want at the budget they can afford. We also recommend that if the cost is more that you had planned on it should be done in steps. Closet Organizers come in many different shapes and sizes and it is best to have one of our in-home or phone consultants, will suggest the best solutions for you. The average cost of a wire shelving closet organizer ranges depending on your organizing needs and the size of your closet. The price can range from $50 to $3000.

  2. What kind of organizer can organize my shoes?

    The first question to ask is "How many pairs of shoes do you need to organize?"Shoes can be stored on flat or angled wire shelves that are spaced close together for efficiency. Shoes can be stored on or behind a door on a 21 pair shoe rack with pegs, on a freestanding stackable or expandable unit, or melamine horizontal or vertical stacking units. There are a variety of solutions for shoes and it is dependent upon the number of shoes you have and the space you have to store them.

  3. How can I keep my clothes/closets and kitchen fresh without using mothballs?

    StorageWORKS carries a line of volcanic odor remover products that will keep your closet fresh and free of musty smells this product rejuvenates itself if placed in the sunshine for a few hours every couple of months. This product is also perfect for your camper, trunk, pet area, refrigerator, smoke filled areas and even your camping cooler.

  4. What can I use to hang notes on my walls that won't mark them?

  5. What should I use for organizing under my sink?

    We have a number of items, such as the madesmart undersink organizer which goes around your plumbing fixtures, we also have a large pull-out two tiered basket system and individual baskets for complete organizing. You could also put a rack on the door for easy to reach items.
  6. Do I have to remove my old closet rod before the installers come to my home?

    Yes, your closet rod should always be removed and the closet empty ready to receive your new organizer. You could also give it a fresh coat of paint. We will install around the original fixtures. The heights of your new closet rods might have to be altered, to work around your existing fixtures

  7. Should I remove all the mess from my closet before someone comes over to my home to design a closet for me?

    NO, we like to see where we can help you get organized. That pile of shoes on the floor, the overstacked pile of sweaters. If you have ties and or scarves everywhere we can help you organize these. We need to see how much long hanging and how much short hanging. This is part of our job to help you fix the problem areas.

  8. Is it a good idea to paint the inside of my closet before the organizers are installed?

    Getting a new closet organizer is like starting a new way of organized living and nothing compliments it more than a fresh coat of paint!!

  9. How much extra space can I expect if my closet is organized by storageWORKS?

    Depending on what your specific needs are, an organizer should be able to double to space.

  10. How do you install an angle wall support?

    The shelf should be already installed. There should be a support every 42"; (wall bracket, support pole, or angle wall brace) if possible use a stud finder, as it is always better to install these into a stud. After this is done, clip the support to the shelf at the front top rail, use a level to ensure the shelf is level, then secure the angle support to the wall using a screw for studs, and an anchor support for other wall surfaces.

  11. How do I ensure that the shelf is level?

    Always use a level to measure that side-to-side of the shelf and the front-to-back.

  12. How long will it take for you to install the system?

    This will depend on the job. For wire anywhere from fifteen minutes to four hours. Double that time for melamine shelving. A quick rule of thumb is take the dollars amount, drop the first decimal and that should be the number of minutes. E.g. $300. Will equal 30 minutes, add 1/2 hour for set up and tool removal.

  13. Where is the rod to hang my clothes?

    The rod to hang your clothes is 12" from the back wall in a closet

  14. What if I want a wood closet?

  15. How do I install a pole support?

    You should have a power drill and the top shelf should be in place. Have the rest of the hardware installed, as this should be your last step. Place all the shelving on the floor in the order that they are going up. Place the pole support in the shelving where you want it supported then one at a time place the shelves in place. Place your level on the shelf to ensure it is level and with one hand hold the shelf, pole and clamp secure, with the other drill the screw into the pole. Continue this process until installed. The first clamp it always the most difficult and becomes easier for any subsequent clamps and poles.

  16. Can I install the shelving myself?

    Certainly, many customers choose the do-it-yourself option. Our salespeople will give complete instructions to install your shelving.

  17. Will you ship my product as soon as possible?

    Yes, we have a system that will ship out available product within 2 working days, Then going the slow pony express; you should have your product with in 10 days

  18. Can I provide you with the measurements over the Internet?

    Yes, please give the measurements in the following format:

    b. Both side walls
    c. Return walls (little walls on either side of the door)
    d. What type of door is on your closet?
    e. Does your door go floor to ceiling or regular door height?
    f. How high is the ceiling

    a. A drawing of the shape of the closet is necessary with all walls marked with the appropriate measurements.

  19. How do you put a basket system together?

    Tools you need: a hammer with a cloth around the head or a rubber mallet. Tips: Do not put together your basket system on a carpet, hardwood floor, linoleum, or any soft surface. When you hammer in the crossbars it can make holes in the surface. Assembly: Hammer the T-shaped crossbars into the bottom of the frame and the L-shaped crossbars into the top of the frame. The top of the frame, the runners are really close and at the bottom of the frame there is a space. Slide the baskets in and you are done!

  20. Am I committed to using only the 8" deep basket?

    There are four depths of basket that can fit in our frames, 4", 8", 12", 16".

  21. How do I know that you are capable to install the shelving?

  22. Our installers are fully qualified through a training program to install the wire shelving. We have a team of very capable lead installers who have been with the company for at least two years. We have installed approx. 120,000 closets in our 15 years in business.

  31. Do my measurements need to be accurate?

  32. Yes your measurements do need to be exact within a 1/16 of an inch. If you are unsure, we can send one of experts out to your location and help you measure and give you ideas at the same time, and it's even free of charge.

  33. How do I determine what type of basket system I need?

  34. The most important things when considering a basket system are the height and width of the system. Allow for the appropriate basket system height and width when installing shelf towers or stacks.

  35. What tools do I need to install the shelving?

  36. A level, hammer, drill with a ¼ " bit, a tape measure, pencil, screwdriver, flat and # 2 robertson, studfinder if you have one.

  37. How far apart should I space the backclips?

  38. Space them every 12 inches starting 2-3 inches from the sidewall. If you have an open end, then place a backclip minimum of 2 inches from the open end.

  39. Do I have to hit a stud?

  40. Hitting a stud is not necessary because the backclips and wall end brackets are designed to be used in ½" drywall. If you do hit a stud, drill a ¼" hole into the stud, then insert backclip flush to the wall and hammer in normally. It will be tight. for a wall bracket if you hit a stud, you need to remove the existing anchors and use screws to attach the wall bracket to the wall. We also want you to hit a stud (if possible) when installing the support braces.

  41. How far apart should the support braces be placed?

  42. Place one brace every 42" and one on each open end unless using a support pole. A support pole needs to have a minimum of two shelves attached to it.

  43. Does the same hardware work for all of the shelves?

  44. The backclips will work will all types of shelves. The support braces have different sizes 9", 12" and 16" depending on the shelf, The wall brackets and joiner plates work on all types of shelves except for freeslide shelving which has a special wall bracket, Jointer plate system and rod spacer cap.

  45. How much weight will a shelf hold?

  46. In ½' drywall, with backclips every 12" and support braces every 42" and wall brackets where applicable the static weight capacity is as follows;

  47. How height should I place my shelves?

  48. Our normal heights are 84" for the top shelf or top double hanging shelf, 72" for the long hanging shelf, 44" for the lower double hanging shelf (this is so you can put a basket system in later) and 12" from the floor for a shoe shelf and 7" spacing after that. Most shelving should be 12" apart, usually leaving extra room at the floor level.
